by Fr Chris Jenkins

In heaven it is always dawn
The first clear light
Bringing about the still, ever fresh morning air
And touching The Beauty

In heaven it is always
(for this is heaven and may always can be)
It is always almost lunch
The air full of the odours of good food, prepared with love
And everyone with appetite and joy and enough
And no-one need ever diet.

In heaven it is always dusk
As the dawn light is transformed into vivid red
And friends gather and talk and drink
And celebrate the gist of the day
And of each other

In heaven it is always night
And the starlight calls out that this place
Is vast and splendid
Like the life that sustains it
And no-one is afraid of the dark

In heaven it is always now
And now, while it's not always heaven
I am surprised by glimpses
As today unfolds.
